Changes to the Call for Papers and the submission checklist since first publication, with new text highlighted. Editorial and stylistic edits are not listed, and the Call for Papers takes precedence.

Call for Papers, 25 September 2026

Submission information → Withdrawal policy

Added By submitting a paper to SaTML 2027, the authors commit to the full review process: the paper stays under review until a decision is notified, and cannot be withdrawn in the meantime, including after the authors have seen the reviews. Reviewing is volunteer work, and a withdrawal mid-cycle discards the effort already spent on the paper. We encourage authors to keep the same considerations in mind at other venues. At SaTML 2027, abstracts are exempt: a registered abstract can be withdrawn freely, but cannot be revived after the abstract registration deadline. Authors receiving a "Revision" outcome may exceptionally request to withdraw (e.g., if they believe they are unable to complete the revision requirements), but must contact the Program Chairs within one week of receiving the notification; otherwise the paper remains under review, and the double submissions policy applies.

Submission decisions → Revision

Planning for growth → Revised timeline

Before Authors who would prefer not to proceed under a revised timeline may withdraw their submission at that point, before any reviews have been released.

Now If the timeline change is substantial, the PC Chairs may offer the option to withdraw the paper within a specified time window, before any reviews have been released. Small changes, such as delays of about one or two weeks, do not warrant this option (see "Withdrawal policy").

Call for Papers, 22 September 2026

Added The section is required for every submission category: Position papers, for instance, often have nothing to release, but the section is still compulsory and should say so.

Reviewing process → LLMs

Before LLMs: We are still considering whether and how to use LLMs as part of the reviewing process […]. In any case, we will make an opt-in flag in HotCRP so authors can decide whether we could process their papers with an LLM.

Now LLMs and reviewing: For SaTML 2027, we are not planning to run any LLM reviewing experiment. All Program Committee members must follow the IEEE reviewer guidelines. In particular, submissions are treated as confidential, and must not be uploaded to public services, including generative AI tools. The assessment of the paper (novelty, correctness, strengths and weaknesses) must be the reviewer's own judgement, and reviewers remain fully responsible for everything their review states. Violation of these guidelines may lead to immediate removal from the Program Committee and to a report to IEEE for misconduct.

Authors and affiliations cannot be changed after the abstract registration deadline, not even in the camera-ready version in case of acceptance (see Change of affiliation for exceptions). Conflicts of Interest policy → Change of affiliation

Added Affiliations are fixed at abstract registration, since they determine institutional conflicts, and we strongly discourage changing them afterwards. If an author may change affiliation by the decision notification, for example because they are interviewing for a new position, and would potentially like the new affiliation to appear in the paper, the authors should:

let the PC Chairs know before the submission deadline at pcchairs@satml.org (this is treated confidentially), and
also declare the conflicts of interest that the prospective affiliation would bring.

Changes flagged this way may be reflected in the camera-ready version. If an unforeseen change of affiliation occurs during the review period, contact the PC Chairs immediately; such cases are handled case by case, and we expect them to be rare.

At abstract registration, every paper must nominate one of its authors who is qualified to review at SaTML and can take on this assignment. The load is cumulative: a nominated author is assigned up to three papers for each submission they are nominated on, so an author nominated on two submissions may be assigned up to six papers. Reviews that are not submitted, are late, or are of inadequate quality may result in desk rejection of any paper the author was nominated on.

Nominations are collected from every submission so that we are ready, but we will only call on them if the volume requires it, which we confirm after abstract registration closes.
